ABOUT THE INTENSIVE
Zouk is known in the world of couple dances for having an amazing flow: the movements transition one into each other like water. Body rolls and head movements alternate at the same time that both partners are flying together through the dance floor.
The Zouk Atoms is an approach to Brazilian zouk that helps you to move in any direction adding spectacular head movements to your steps while you are swimming all the time inside of the structure of zouk. It will help you to create your own dance and develop your own style!
WHO IS THIS INTENSIVE FOR?
We offer this intensive to experienced zouk dancers that have a good knowledge of the basics and, in an ideal world, are already able to dance head movements.
WHAT WILL BE COVERED?
This intensive feels like two intensives in one:

One intensive about the footwork and the structures that build Brazilian Zouk.

One head movements intensive: Everyday we will be practicing head movements, so you can count with around 12 hours of head movements during the week.
Furthermore you will learn lots of technique about your body and about how to connect comfortable with your partner (leading and following).
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
After this intensive you’ll have trained your body (specially in the case of the head movements) and your mind (understanding the structure of zouk), reaching a new level of freedom of movement and creativity.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Since turns are an important part of Zouk, we don’t recommend dancing barefoot. Please bring clean dance shoes, sports shoes, or thick socks.
HOW IS THE INTENSIVE STRUCTURED
The body and the mind are very grateful when we are able to give them enough time to focus in one thing, allowing the movement to become natural. Prepare yourself for a very immersive experience!
We will spend together during the classes 6 hours every day: 5 hours of proper classes and 1 hour of breaks to relax in between and eat something.
This is will be the general schedule. The breaks can change a bit depending of the flow of the day:

11:00 to 12:15: first block

12:15 - 12:30: break

13:45 - 14:15: break for the meal

A PERFECT START TO YOUR ZOUK MONTH
The Beginner Intensive is the kick-off of Zouk Month and a great way to prepare for the Zouk Island Festival (March 13–16, 2026). With a solid foundation in place, you’ll be ready to fully enjoy the festival and all the other events throughout the month.
ABOUT THE ZOUK ATOMS TECHNIQUE
The Zouk Atoms Technique is a combination of four different techniques:

Footwork and the structure of the Zouk Atoms. A Zouk Atom is a basic footwork pattern of three steps for the follower. The structure of the Zouk Atoms shows us which are the different basic patterns that we can dance and how to combine them fluently.

Headwork. The technique for the headwork allows us to dance head movements on the top of any footwork.

Leading Technique: The Leading Technique has a strong focus on the idea of invitation: How the leader invites the hips (footwork) and the chest (headwork) of the follower in order to create new movements.

Follower Technique: The Follower Technique is based on the idea of „universal follower“, a follower that knows how to keep the full body connected and can go in any direction.
